MetCheck Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) Backflow Preventer – 316 Stainless Steel (Hydromet)
Hydromet Metcheck Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) Backflow Preventer
Backflow prevention valves designed to last a lifetime.

Product description
The MetCheck RPZ Valve is Hydromet’s top-tier backflow prevention device designed to provide the highest level of protection against contaminated water re-entering the potable supply. Built from premium marine-grade 316 stainless steel and fully WaterMark certified, this device excels in demanding commercial, industrial, and high-risk applications.
Hydromet’s MetCheck RPZ valves are engineered for long-term performance with minimal maintenance and maximum protection, addressing common issues such as:
- Corrosion and pitting from traditional iron bodies
- Frequent seal wear due to temperature and chemical exposure
- Downtime and service costs with difficult access designs
What an RPZ Valve is and why it matters
An RPZ (Reduced Pressure Zone) valve is a specialised backflow prevention assembly that protects potable water systems from both backsiphonage and backpressure — the two main mechanisms by which contaminated water can flow upstream into clean water supplies. It does this by using two independent check valves and an intermediate relief valve that maintains a reduced pressure zone between them, discharging water if the pressure differential is compromised, effectively preventing contamination under fault conditions.
RPZ devices are typically required for high-hazard risk connections — such as industrial sites, irrigation with chemicals, fire sprinkler systems, boiler plant connections and any cross-connection that could introduce harmful substances into the public water supply.
Key features and benefits
Exceptional Durability
- 316 marine-grade stainless steel body resists corrosion, pitting and chemical attack — ideal for harsh Australian environments.
- Eliminates premature degradation common in ductile iron or lesser materials.
Reliable High-Level Protection
- Designed and manufactured to comply with Australian standards for backflow devices (e.g., AS/NZS 2845.1).
- Provides dependable protection against backflow caused by pressure transients and system fluctuations.
Service-Friendly Design
- Coupling design and modular components allow for easy access and maintenance by accredited plumbers.
- Test cocks and service points simplify annual testing and certification — a regulatory requirement in many regions.
Built for Australian Conditions
- Australian designed and manufactured to meet local water authority expectations.
- Rated PN16, 60 °C suitable for a wide range of potable water applications.
Applications and where it’s required
MetCheck RPZ Valves are ideal for high and medium hazard applications, including:
✔ Industrial and manufacturing facilities
✔ Commercial sites with chemical exposure
✔ Irrigation systems with fertilisers/pesticides
✔ Fire services and sprinkler systems
✔ Facilities with large process equipment connected to potable supply
Note: An accredited backflow assessment by a licensed plumber is required to determine device suitability based on hazard rating before installation.
Standards, compliance and testing
- AS/NZS 2845.1 Water Supply – Backflow Prevention Devices — material, design and performance criteria.
- WaterMark Certification — independently audited compliance for Australian plumbing requirements.
- Annual testing and certification by an accredited tester are typically required under local water authority regulations to maintain compliance.
